11:00Now PlayingArtificial intelligence could eliminate millions of jobs within the next five years and ultimately pose an existential risk to humanity, according to AI safety researcher Roman Yampolskiy. It's even clever enough to have written that opening sentence (I've written the rest of it though).
Dr Yampolskiy warned LBC's Tom Swarbrick that AI will soon be able to teach itself - and this feedback loop could lead to more powerful models being developed at unprecedented speed - with society unable to control the systems.
The immediate impact won't just be felt by computer-based jobs. Even manual labour will be affected. This will create revolution-levels of joblessness, leaving world governments with no choice but to bring in a Universal Basic Income.
A prescient warning or hyperbolic fear-mongering? You decide.
