Jonathan argues the UK must accept “different cultures and values” and says the plight of Afghan women “has nothing to do with our lives.”
Shelagh rejects that view, insisting it is not “cultural difference” but “deep, misogynistic, crazy oppression.”
It comes as two more members of the Iranian women’s football team have reportedly sought asylum in Australia after refusing to board a flight back to their home country after competing in the Women’s Asian Cup tournament.
A plane left Sydney airport on Tuesday night local time for Malaysia, reports said, with players and staff, ending a dramatic two days when five players were granted asylum after refusing to return home.
The speculation had built after the team became embroiled in controversy for refusing to sing the national anthem at their opening game 10 days ago, prompting threats of reprisals for “traitors” amid the US-Israeli attacks on the country.
