Shant emphasizes this is a refugee success story: families fled Somalia's civil war in the 1990s, followed legal immigration processes (which can take 20+ years with extensive FBI and Homeland Security vetting), and raised American children. Brian acknowledges some fraud exists—roughly 70-100 indictments total—but this doesn't justify vilifying the entire community. The hosts explain Trump and Stephen Miller use "Somalia" as shorthand for "Muslim, Black, foreign, criminal." Minnesota's estimated 100,000 total undocumented population (all nationalities) represents only 1.5-2% of the state, with 60% being Latino. These undocumented immigrants contribute over $1 billion annually in state taxes while receiving no refunds. Trump's highly publicized raids have arrested only "a few dozen" Somalis—nowhere near the thousands claimed.
