Last summer, Patel took a "VIP snorkel" around the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor, the sunken battleship that entombs more than 900 sailors and Marines killed on December 7, 1941. The site is a military cemetery with the same legal status as Arlington National Cemetery. Snorkeling and diving are prohibited for the public, with narrow exceptions for marine archaeologists, maintenance crews, and the interment of cremated remains of Pearl Harbor survivors who wish to rest with their shipmates. The FBI issued press releases about Patel's Hawaii trip but omitted the snorkeling excursion entirely. A Marine veteran who dives on the Arizona annually called it "like having a bachelor party at a church. It's hallowed ground." A Naval Academy professor called it "horrifying" and compared it to "playing kickball on top of the graves at Arlington." Brian and Shant connect it to the broader pattern of Patel treating his badge as a VIP pass: the $35,000 country music suite, the $1 million annual security detail for his girlfriend, the beer-chugging at the Olympics, and the hypocrisy of having previously criticized former FBI Director Christopher Wray for using government jets for personal travel.
