YouTube Description
as posted by the channelAttorneys Brian Kabateck and Shant Karnikian cover the Lawfare Institute study finding that 97 of the 1,500+ January 6 rioters pardoned by Trump have since been arrested, charged, or convicted of separate crimes. That's roughly one in 16. The offenses include child molestation (one pardonee sentenced to life), reckless homicide, grand larceny, stalking, plots to assassinate officials, illegal firearms, domestic violence, and fraud. At least 14 face sex crime charges. At least five committed crimes after the pardon itself, meaning Trump's clemency directly enabled the conduct. Andrew Paul Johnson was convicted of molesting two children and tried to silence one victim by promising restitution money from the Trump administration. Zachary Alam, who smashed the Speaker's Lobby door, was sentenced to seven years for breaking into a home. Ryan Nichols was charged with threatening someone with a gun in a church parking lot. Enrique Tarrio was arrested for assault, but Trump's appointed prosecutor declined charges. Brian and Shant note that pardons carry no probation, no monitoring, no conditions. The pardon power is nearly absolute under Article II, which is exactly why it needs to be used with care, not as a mass loyalty reward for 1,600 people who stormed the Capitol.
