His firm Affinity Partners plans to develop a protected wetland that's home to flamingos, Dalmatian pelicans, monk seals, and sea turtle nesting sites, plus Sazan Island, a former Soviet military base. Albania's government fast-tracked the project by quietly downgrading the area's protected status. Thousands of Albanians have filled the streets of Tirana under the banner "Albania Is Not for Sale," carrying pink flamingo cutouts. Viral footage showed a guard punching and dragging a protester. Albania's anti-corruption prosecutors froze the developer's bank accounts amid a widening property fraud investigation. The EU issued warnings. Greece raised a diplomatic protest. Ivanka Trump told a podcast she and Kushner "discovered" Sazan while sailing and "swam to the island barefoot." Brian notes Kushner has already collected $157 million in management fees, including $87 million from Saudi Arabia. Brian and Shant call it what it is: the president's son-in-law using proximity to American power to override environmental law, EU regulations, and a country's sovereignty all at once.
