13:43Now PlayingAttorneys Brian Kabateck and Shant Karnikian cover the fatal shooting of Joan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, 25, by ICE agents during a 7 a.m. vehicle stop in Biddeford, Maine. His wife and three-year-old child were in the car. He wasn't the target of the operation. He had a Social Security number and was authorized to work in the U.S. DHS said he "attempted to flee." No body cameras were deployed despite a promise five months ago to "rapidly" equip agents nationwide. This was the second fatal ICE shooting in six days, after Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was killed in Houston under nearly identical circumstances. DHS Secretary Mullin paused most vehicle stops pending a training review. Republican Sen. Susan Collins, facing reelection, called him personally to urge a halt. Then Trump overruled his own DHS within 24 hours, posting on Truth Social that suspending stops was "playing right into the criminal's hands." Mullin fell in line: "The Secretary and the President are on the same page." Sen. Angus King said the victim wasn't the target and called the premise of these operations "phony." Brian and Shant note that neither victim had a criminal record, neither was the target, and in both cases ICE used the same "weaponized vehicle" language that fell apart after the Minneapolis shootings.
