10:56Now PlayingAttorneys Brian Kabateck and Shant Karnikian cover the growing relationship between Trump officials and Diosdado Cabello, Venezuela's Minister of the Interior, Justice, and Peace, who is under federal indictment in the Southern District of New York for cocaine trafficking, sanctioned by the Treasury since 2018, accused of human rights violations by the UN, and wanted by Chile for involvement in the assassination of a Venezuelan dissident. The U.S. has a $25 million bounty on his head. Video from the Los Angeles Fire Department showed John Barrett, head of the U.S. Embassy in Caracas, shaking Cabello's hand and patting him on the shoulder while touring earthquake damage. When asked if policy had changed, Barrett dodged. Rubio's answer: "The U.S. policy on this issue has not changed." Brian and Shant connect it to the pardon of former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernandez, convicted on drug trafficking charges and sentenced to 45 years, whom Trump called a victim of a "witch hunt" despite his own first administration investigating Hernandez. Brian's theory: the earthquake gave the administration convenient cover to cozy up to a man who controls Venezuela's oil and mineral resources. Cabello's 30-year-old daughter is Venezuela's Minister of Tourism. Shant's prediction: the bounty gets formally revoked and somehow Biden gets blamed.
