Brian walks through the case of Paul Vaughn, a pro-life activist convicted under the FACE Act for blockading a Nashville-area abortion clinic, pardoned by Trump three days into his second term, and now paid a seven-figure settlement despite what looks like an expired statute of limitations. Brian details the pattern: Mark Houck, acquitted of FACE Act charges, received $1.1 million; Michael Flynn, who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, got $1.25 million after his pardon; Ashley Babbitt's family received a $5 million wrongful death settlement; and Carter Page, never even charged, got $1.25 million after his own case was time-barred. Shant points out these are all discretionary settlements, not court judgments, and every one disclaims any admission of liability. Shant's bottom line: the administration killed the fund's name to defuse the political backlash, but taxpayer-funded payouts to Trump loyalists keep flowing regardless, and more are likely on the way.
