10:02Now PlayingAttorneys Brian Kabateck and Shant Karnikian break down a new Partnership for Public Service analysis finding 27 Senate-confirmed officials have departed the Trump administration in just 18 months — more than six times the pace of the Bush, Obama, and Biden administrations at the same point, and more than double Trump's own first-term turnover of 11 departures. Brian and Shant run through the highest-profile exits: Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, fired; Attorney General Pam Bondi, fired; Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, resigned amid a dispute; and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who cited a family health issue after clashing with Trump over Iran policy. Her deputy, National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, resigned in protest over the Iran conflict — a decision Brian and Shant note carries extra weight given his wife, a fellow military veteran, was killed in action in the Middle East. Other departures include FDA Commissioner Marty Makary, who resigned after Trump rolled back flavored-vape regulations following a Mar-a-Lago meeting with tobacco lobbyists; CDC Director Susan Monarez, removed after resisting RFK Jr.'s pressure on vaccine policy; Navy Secretary John Phelan; and IRS Commissioner Billy Long, reassigned to an ambassadorship in Iceland. Brian and Shant flag a related trend: Trump increasingly leans on acting officials to sidestep Senate confirmation entirely, a workaround with essentially no legal limit on duration. Brian's bottom line: this level of turnover isn't politics as usual — it's a warning sign of an administration hemorrhaging experienced officials, whether by choice or by force.
