It shouldn't have to be said, but pumping your cousin is a bad idea. Your kids will be at much higher risk of side effects such as feeling awkward at family events and getting bullied at school.
Despite that, it's very common in large parts of the world. Around 65% of marriages in Pakistan are cousin marriages. And that figure rises in more backward parts of the world - it's at 75% in Bradford.
This week saw politician Iqbal Mohammed defend cousin marriage in Parliament, saying it could 'build family bonds' and put families on a 'more secure financial foothold'.
I mean yeah, I guess pumping your cousin is a kind of family bond.
There are calls to ban cousin marriage. But I have a very compelling argument to let people keep doing it.
