Glastonbury, once the gentle hippie capital of muddy fields and questionable hygiene, this weekend became the frontline in Britain’s simmering civil war. A "punk" act named Bob Vylan (real name: double barrelled) who looks like a Barbary pirate dressed like Cliff Richard is taking a lot of flack right now for chanting "Death to the IDF!" (the Israeli military, not the French energy company).

But in the shadow of that controversy, he shouted to a sea of Brits "I heard you want your country back? Ha! Shut the fuck up!", antagonistically sneering at the sort of people who still quite like the idea of Britain being British.

Ironically, he was surrounded by Palestinian flags. But he wouldn't dream of suggesting that THOSE people don't deserve an ancestral homeland.

We're told it's punk, it's counter culture - it isn't. Glastonbury is huge. The BBC is the state broadcast. And they dutifully broadcast it all. Bob Vylan are saying exactly what the establishment says: no British person has a claim to Britain, shut up about it or you're racist, because your land is being taken from you.

I think this could be a pivotal moment. His song has spread across WhatsApp groups and social media and is making people think yes, I would like my country back, now you mention it. The disgruntled rumblings being picked up on this country's earthquake monitors could erupt into a volcano.

And the IDF have the chance to play the biggest troll in the world by using this song as their anthem.
