The past week saw two people from opposite sides of the political divide walk free - Lucy Connolly completed her prison sentence for saying a naughty thing on Twitter, while Labour politician Ricky Jones dodged jail completely, being found "not guilty" by a jury.
We're told the cases were completely different (they were charged with different crimes) and aren't examples of two-tier justice, but even their differences prove it (why was Lucy charged with a much harsher "Public Order" offence?)
Ricky had:
-No conviction despite being filmed calling for throat-slitting of political opponents.
-Granted bail while awaiting trial – Lucy Connolly wasn’t.
-Advised to plead not guilty and walked free after trial.
-Mitigation accepted: Claimed ADHD “neurodivergent challenges” and played “race card” (racist bullying at school).
Whereas Lucy got:
-31-month sentence for a tweet with a qualifier (“for all I care”) that wasn’t a direct incitement.
-Denied bail – fast-tracked, no time to build defence.
-Railroaded into guilty plea under threat of long pre-trial detention.
-Duty solicitor gave poor/biased advice to plead guilty - which led to heavy jail time.
-Compassionate visits denied (even to see her young daughter).
-Appeal dismissed (though her lawyer was praised by judge.)
-The judge showed total alignment with the government, invoking ideological language (“diverse and inclusive is our strength”).
-Mitigating factors ignored: her toddler died due to alleged negligence of an immigrant doctor
-Limited reach: only ~9,000 followers, but treated as if hugely influential.
And look at others on the left!
-Mike Amesbury (Labour MP): Pleaded guilty to real assault → freed after 3 days from 10-week sentence.
-Nick Lowles (Hope Not Hate): Spread false acid-attack rumour during Southport riots. Still walking around free.
Other protesters (Jamie Michael, Lee Joseph Dunn, Julie Sweeney, Peter Lynch) were jailed for Facebook posts or chants far milder than Jones’ speech. Some denied bail, fast-tracked, handed long sentences.
Peter Lynch died in prison.
Lucy was slammed with 31 months in prison because she's deemed "racist". But why is being racist seen as so much worse? And talking of racism - Ricky's trial was held in a multicultural area (less than 50% White British). Were they biased towards him? As tribal loyalties emerge, Britain's criminal justice system won't survive multiculturalism.
