In a tense House Armed Services Committee hearing, Rep. John Garamendi (D-CA) directly challenged Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over two high-stakes issues: America’s massive nuclear weapons spending and U.S. support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s ongoing war.

Garamendi pressed Hegseth on the Sentinel ICBM program — a nuclear missile replacement whose costs have ballooned from $78 billion to over $141 billion, with billions more expected for bombs and command systems.
