Durbin describes how he and Senator Tammy Duckworth were denied entry to a detention facility they fund, blocked from oversight, and ignored by DHS and ICE. Meanwhile, masked ICE agents roam Chicago streets without insignia, targeting peaceful protesters and immigrants in the name of “law and order.”
Durbin calls it “terrible, indefensible, and embarrassing” — and he’s right. When federal agencies start hiding from Congress, the Constitution itself is under threat.
This isn’t about left or right — it’s about accountability, democracy, and the abuse of power. Because if ICE can silence oversight in Illinois, they can do it anywhere.
