"At the direction of the President, the U.S. military has taken decisive defensive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad" the department said in a statement announcing the death of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran's military forces in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and elsewhere throughout the Middle East. It will raise tensions between U.S. and Iran.
