4 Dalits Killed in 4 Days, Activists Suspect Casteist Assaults During Lockdown 😮

Since the first nationwide lockdown began on March 25, there have been at least 30 major incidents of caste-based violence in the state of Tamil Nadu, according to the Madurai-based NGO Evidence. In May, 4 Dalits, or “untouchables,” were killed within the span of 4 days. A Kathir, executive director of Evidence, claims that victims are not even able to report to the proper authorities due to COVID19 lockdown restrictions. Dalits are facing particular discrimination during the pandemic due to the casteist belief that they are inherently unhygienic people.
