12:03Now PlayingInstagram has recently completely blocked the hashtag #Exmuslim from all search results on the platform! When one tries to search for this hashtag on Instagram, only a message appears that reads “Posts for #exmuslim have been limited because the community has reported some content that may not meet Instagram’s Community Guidelines.” Several atheist activists like Seth Andrews, Zara Kay, and ExMuslims of North America reacted to this news, condemned the actions of Instagram, and demanded immediate correction and reinstatement of the hashtag. The Atheist Republic team discussed how Instagram’s action will harm the ExMuslim community, as it will prevent ExMuslims from finding a like-minded community, and how this action validates the erroneous opinion that there is something hateful or harmful about this community of apostates. The team also discussed the importance of making sure this action backfires on Instagram, and advised others to speak out on social media and contact the Oversight Board that advises censorship on Instagram and Facebook.
