34:59Now PlayingUganda's President, Yoweri Museveni, has signed into law a highly controversial anti-LGBTQIA+ bill, which has drawn international condemnation. The law criminalizes homosexuality and imposes severe punishments for promoting LGBTQIA+ causes or identifying as LGBTQIA+. Under the law, those found guilty of certain LGBTQIA+ activities can be sentenced to life imprisonment, while "aggravated homosexuality" offenses, such as engaging in same-sex relations with vulnerable individuals or those with HIV, are punishable by death. The United Nations and various international leaders have criticized the law, citing its violation of human rights and international treaties. US President Joe Biden has called for the law's repeal and is considering measures such as aid reevaluation and sanctions. Human rights activists in Uganda plan to challenge the law in court. This is not the first attempt to impose stricter penalties on homosexuality in Uganda, but previous efforts have been struck down by the Constitutional Court.
