The data was provided by the National Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (NHRC) in response to an inquiry led by Senator Walid Iqbal, who expressed concerns about the "exploitation of blasphemy laws for settling personal scores." The committee is also considering the formation of a national coordination committee within the Ministry of Human Rights to establish standard operating procedures aimed at alleviating the suffering of minorities. The report comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Pakistan's blasphemy laws, which have been criticized for their misuse and the disproportionate impact they have on minority communities.
