1:36:16Now PlayingA series of explosive incidents involving communication devices has recently occurred in Lebanon, leading to significant casualties and raising tensions in the region. These incidents involved the detonation of pagers and walkie-talkies used by members of Hezbollah, a militant group based in Lebanon. On Tuesday, a coordinated attack led to the explosion of numerous pagers across Lebanon, killing at least 12 people and injuring thousands more. These pagers were reportedly used by Hezbollah members as a secure communication method to avoid interception by Israeli surveillance.
The following day, walkie-talkies exploded in various Hezbollah strongholds, including the southern suburbs of Beirut and other regions in southern Lebanon. This second wave of explosions resulted in additional fatalities and injuries, with reports indicating that at least 14 people died and over 300 were wounded. Hezbollah has accused Israel of orchestrating these attacks. The group claims that Israel's intelligence agency, Mossad, along with its military forces, were behind the explosions. Israel has not officially commented on these allegations.
While Israel has not publicly admitted responsibility, some reports suggest that Israeli officials have privately acknowledged their involvement. The attacks are seen as part of Israel's broader strategy against Hezbollah amid ongoing conflicts in the region. Experts suggest that the explosions might have been caused by small explosive devices planted within the pagers and walkie-talkies. These devices could have been remotely triggered, possibly via radio signals. The sophistication and scale of the attack point to the involvement of a state actor, with Israel being the primary suspect due to its history of covert operations against Hezbollah.
