Barbers have been jailed for giving “non-compliant haircuts,” while others were detained simply for skipping Ramadan prayers. These morality laws, enforced by more than 3,300 inspectors, have devastated small businesses and deepened Afghanistan’s economic crisis. Despite global outrage, Taliban Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada doubled down, declaring it necessary “to establish a society free from corruption… and prevent future generations from becoming victims of misguided beliefs.”
