31:39Now PlayingLong before Donald Trump was elected president, Trygve Olson and Joe Trippi were on opposite sides of the political aisle. But they met while they were both aiding democratic (small “D”) movements resisting authoritarianism overseas.
The lifeblood of autocrats is fear. Trump and his allies want us to be too afraid to go out join the No Kings protests of the abomination that is his July 14 military parade. We’re supposed to cower as he shows off his power. But we have to resist and refuse. There are more of us than there are of them.
And we can take advantage of opportunities, like with Elon Musk taking a hammer Tuesday to Trump’s MAGA Murder Budget, just days after he left Washington.
We can sow discontent and discord among Trump and Republicans, because the bill flies in the face of conservative fiscal policy. That can create an opening with some people we know who supported Trump, but aren’t sold on this porkfest of a bill — or Elon fans who may be souring on Trump now. When you’re building a broad pro-democracy coalition, remember the old maxim: The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
