Sinéad O'Connor, the talented musician who passed away at the age of 56, faced a particularly challenging childhood. Her parents' divorce at a young age led her to live with her mother, who she claimed physically abused her and encouraged shoplifting. As a result, at 14, Sinéad found herself spending 18 months at a training center that had once been a notorious church-affiliated Magdalene laundry in Dublin.

Despite the unhappiness of her circumstances, Sinéad acknowledged that this experience played a crucial role in saving her life. During her time at the center, a compassionate nun gifted her a guitar and a "punk-rock parka." These simple but meaningful presents planted the seed of a music career in her mind. A decade later, Sinéad O'Connor achieved worldwide chart success with her single "Nothing Compares 2 U."

The music video for "Nothing Compares 2 U" portrayed Sinéad in a strikingly beautiful manner, with her hair cut short to half an inch, and she shed real tears in the emotional performance. Although the track was originally written by Prince, Sinéad's rendition, characterized by the clarity and expressiveness of her voice, became the definitive version and one of the best-selling singles of 1990. Her album, "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got," which featured the hit single, sold an impressive 7 million copies and received four Grammy nominations. This marked the commercial pinnacle of her career, but internally, she faced torment rather than fulfillment throughout her journey in the music industry.
