A federal grand jury has indicted Lewis A. Lacey, 61, the former deputy chief of police in Dolton, Illinois, on charges of bankruptcy fraud, making false statements, and perjury. Lacey, a close ally of controversial Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard, is accused of concealing assets and income to avoid paying creditors and settling a lawsuit. The nine-count indictment alleges that Lacey underreported his monthly income, concealed bank accounts, and falsely claimed that he was separated from his spouse to misrepresent his financial situation during bankruptcy proceedings in 2019 and 2020. Lacey, who has been a vocal supporter of Henyard amidst ongoing scandals, was recently fired from his position as deputy police chief. His attorney, Gal Pissetzky, asserts that the charges are part of a broader effort by the government to build a criminal case against Mayor Henyard. If convicted on all charges, Lacey faces up to 45 years in prison.
