Former President Barack Obama and former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton released statements on Tuesday praising Kamala Harris's choice of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice-presidential pick. Harris, aligning herself with one of the most progressive figures from her shortlist, is expected to introduce Walz at a rally in Philadelphia before embarking on a tour of key battleground states.
In his statement, Obama described Walz as an "ideal partner" for Harris, subtly contrasting him with former President Donald Trump’s vice-presidential pick, Senator J.D. Vance. Obama emphasized that the choice of a running mate reflects the character and values of a presidential candidate. He praised Walz's experience, values, and integrity, highlighting his leadership during the pandemic, his support for paid family leave, abortion rights, and gun safety measures.
