The Department of Justice has agreed to a settlement in principle with the family of Ashli Babbitt, the Air Force veteran fatally shot by Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd during the January 6, 2021, protest at the U.S. Capitol. Filed by Judicial Watch on behalf of Babbitt’s husband and estate, the wrongful death lawsuit originally sought \$30 million, arguing that Babbitt’s shooting was an unjustified use of deadly force.
