What is critically important—and often overlooked—is the responsibility of the Islamic community itself to clarify what Sharia *is* and what it is *not*. It is incumbent upon religious scholars, educators, and community leaders to differentiate their faith from those who bastardize, adulterate, or hijack Sharia for political control, terror, or cultural repression. This is not just a matter of public relations but a moral duty to protect the integrity of a sacred legal tradition.
This challenge is not unique to Islam. Jewish and Christian communities have long had to distance themselves from those who misuse scripture or doctrine to justify violence, inequality, or intolerance. In a pluralistic society, every faith group is expected to engage critically with its own texts and practices, especially when they intersect with secular law and public life.
