When people talk about “Black fatigue” in the mainstream, they usually mean the toll of racism over generations. But there’s another kind that’s just as real, and it’s hitting both white Americans and plenty of Black Americans the same way. It’s the exhaustion from watching a small but highly visible slice of the population turn public spaces into viral disaster zones — the screaming matches at airports, the all-out brawls in fast food restaurants, the drunken chaos on cruise ship decks, the pajama-and-bonnet strolls through high-traffic areas as if public presentation doesn’t matter.
These incidents are statistically rare but visually explosive, and in the age of social media, they get recorded, clipped, and blasted across the internet in minutes. The quiet majority who work, parent, travel, and dine without incident never trend — but the 90-second fight video racks up millions of views and starts shaping perception.
Part of the fatigue comes from the constant misuse of the “race card” in situations that are really about behavior, not bias. While real discrimination exists and should be called out, reflexively framing every consequence as racism dilutes legitimate cases and trains the public to roll their eyes. Many Black Americans will say privately that this conduct is embarrassing, but calling it out openly risks backlash from within.
