Training and intuition kicked in when an Arizona State trooper stopped a vehicle for a relatively minor moving violation and found the occupants were subjects of a nationwide manhunt for armed robbery, homicide and parental abduction.
February 6, 2016, at about 7:00 p.m. a trooper from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (ADPS) made a traffic stop after observing a vehicle swerving out of its lane on westbound Interstate 10 near Eloy (MP 206). After approaching the vehicle and contacting the two adult and two juvenile occupants, the trooper found the driver had no identification. The driver verbally identified himself to the trooper; the adult passenger was identified as Antoinette Wong with her Louisiana Driver's License. Wong was found to have two outstanding warrants for armed robbery and was taken into custody. The driver was also taken into custody after his true identity was revealed as Keith Rogers. The two children were found to be endangered missing juveniles abducted from Shreveport, Louisiana.
ADPS detectives learned from Shreveport Police Department in Louisiana that Rogers and Wong had taken the 7-year-old Donnie Simmons at gunpoint during a home invasion and also took Wong's 2-year-old son from a different location. A search of the vehicle by troopers and detectives uncovered evidence and currency believed to be from a bank robbery that Roger's committed. Rogers was also found to have outstanding warrants for homicide and armed robbery.
Wong and Rogers were booked for the warrants and the investigation was turned over to Special Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). New Orleans Division Special Agent An Luong said, "Troopers did a great job looking past the initial traffic stop." The children were turned over to the Arizona Department of Child Safety (ADCS) and will be returned to Louisiana.
