20:09Now PlayingThe suspect accused of killing a California police officer the day after Christmas was arrested, along with his brother and co-worker, the Stanislaus County Sheriff announced on Friday, while he also ripped apart California's sanctuary laws.
The names of those arrested for the Wednesday death of Newman Police Cprl. Ronil Singh are: Gustavo Perez Arriaga, who turned 32 on Friday; his brother, Adrian Virgen, 25; and co-worker Erik Razo Quiroz, 32. All are undocumented, the sheriff said.
"They intentionally lied to us and misled us," said Sheriff Adam Christianson of Arriaga's alleged accomplices.
Christianson said Arriaga, who worked on dairy farms, was arrested in Bakersfiled, Calif. trying to get to Mexico and has two prior arrests for DUI. He also said that Arriaga was a Sureno.
Arriaga's alleged accomplices were arrested separately, the sheriff said, who took the time to address the immigration debate.
"We should have been allowed to report him to ICE," Christianson said. "But because of sanctuary laws we could not."
Christianson said that if Arriaga hadn't been in the country, "the outcome could have been different. Why are we providing sanctuary for criminals? For gang members?"
