The Tampa Bay area is looking to get an economic boost this weekend with Super Bowl LV coming to town, but it will still be a year of “what could have been.” The community missed out on reaping the benefits of The Tampa Lightning winning the NHL’s Stanley Cup, which had to be played in Canada, and the Tampa Bay Rays making it all the way to the World Series, which was played in Texas. And while last year’s Super Bowl pumped over $500 million into the local economy, this year’s Super Bowl will be much more distilled down due to the pandemic. Even so, with the year local business owner have had in the area, they’re willing to take whatever they can get.
