Sheriff Eric Aden said the deputy entered the correct apartment and announced himself, adding that Fortson acknowledged law enforcement was at the door and had a gun.
LiveNOW’s Andy Mac discussed the shooting with Civil Rights Attorney Benjamin Taylor, who spoke about Florida’s laws that allow homeowners to protect themselves and their homes with firearms and possible charges that could be brought against the officers. “When you’re inside your home, you have every right to protect yourself and feel safe,” the attorney said when discussing how police interact with the public when firearms are involved.
