President-elect Donald Trump continues to lay the groundwork for his second administration with his latest pick of former acting Attorney General, Matt Whitaker to serve as US ambassador to NATO. Whitaker has been considered as a potential pick for the Attorney General role, but Trump ultimately nominated Florida congressman Matt Gaetz who resigned from Congress hours after the nomination. Gaetz has been divisive within his own party as some Republican senators have said they want to see an ethics report from an investigation into Gaetz before approving him for the role of AG. The House Ethics Committee was deadlocked in a vote Wednesday on whether to release that report with all GOP members voting against it. Trump’s other recent administrative picks include former WWE boss, Linda McMahon as Education Secretary and TV’s Dr. Mehmet Oz as Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator.

More than a dozen families are displaced in a Michigan condo complex after an explosion. The blast destroyed nearly 20 units at the Keatington Condo Complex in Orion Township, which is in Oakland County. An investigation into the explosion could take weeks, according to officials in Orion Township.

An Israeli civilian who entered southern Lebanon alongside a senior Israeli officer has died during a gun battle with Hezbollah terrorists. The Israel Defense Forces says 71-year-old Ze’ev Erlich was a researcher heading to check out an ancient fortress. The IDF says the area of the archeological site was believed to have been cleared but two Hezbollah militants were hiding out there and opened fire. Erlich and a soldier were killed.

The world’s top war crimes court has issued arrest warrants for the leaders of Israel and Hamas, including Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing them of crimes against humanity. The warrants against Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant focus on allegations Israel has used food as a weapon in its campaign against Hamas in Gaza, a charge Israeli officials deny. Experts have warned that hunger has become widespread across Gaza and may have reached famine levels in the north of the territory, which is under siege by Israeli troops. Netanyahu condemned the arrest warrant against him, saying Israel “rejects with disgust the absurd and false actions” by the court. In a statement released by his office, he said: “There is nothing more just than the war that Israel has been waging in Gaza.” The decision turns Netanyahu and the others into internationally wanted suspects and could further isolate them, as well as complicate efforts to negotiate a cease-fire. But its practical implications could be limited since Israel and its major ally, the United States, are not members of the court.
