That ceasefire was effective as of 4:00AM Israel time, but hours in, the Israel War Room posted to X that Hezbollah had already technically violated the terms of the ceasefire, but that the agreement would remain in place. President Biden on Wednesday also posted to social media and said the US is making another push with Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Israel and others to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.
The Biden administration kept President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration closely apprised of its efforts to broker the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hezbollah that took effect early Wednesday, according to the outgoing Democratic administration. “Everyone is coming to the table because of President Trump,” Florida Rep. Mike Waltz, Trump’s choice for his national security adviser, said in a post on X on Tuesday, shortly before the Israel Cabinet signed off on the agreement. “His resounding victory sent a clear message to the rest of the world that chaos won’t be tolerated. I’m glad to see concrete steps towards de-escalation in the Middle East.”
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) expects to screen 18.3 million airport-goers over the next week in its “busiest Thanksgiving ever.” Another round of wintry weather across the country could complicate travel before and after Thanksgiving, as an ongoing shortage of air traffic controllers could cause flight delays at other airports.
