While the New York City Police Department (NYPD) has not necessarily zeroed in on a motive for the attack, detectives do allege that Luigi Mangione may have been motivated by his anger toward the healthcare industry.
New York City's Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch revealed Wednesday that the gun found on Mangione during his arrest in Pennsylvania matched shell casings found at the site of the shooting in New York. She added that the 26-year-old suspect's fingerprints also matched a water bottle and snack bar wrapped located near the scene believed to be purchased at a nearby coffee shop.
Mangione remains jailed in Pennsylvania without bond where he was arrested on gun and forgery charges. Manhattan prosecutors are working to bring him back to New York to face a murder charge.
The suspect was arrested earlier this week while at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania where an employee apparently recognized him from photos circulated nationwide.
