5:03Now PlayingThe New York City Police Department (NYPD) has identified the man accused of setting a sleeping woman on fire in a Brooklyn subway over the weekend as 33-year-old Sebastian Zapeta-Calil.
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirms Zapeta-Calil “is an unlawfully present Guatemalan citizen who entered the United States without admission by an immigration official.”
Zapeta-Calil was charged with murder and could be arraigned Tuesday after the woman died as a result of her injuries.
NYPD said the victim and suspect were riding the F train around 7:30AM on Sunday to the Stillwell Avenue Subway station in Coney Island. When the train stopped, police said Zapeta-Calil calmly walked up to the seated woman and set her on fire, killing her.
Police do not believe the two knew each other.
