as posted by the channelAll 67 people aboard the American Airlines jet and Army helicopter are dead in what is likely the worst U.S. aviation disaster in almost 24 years, officials said Thursday.
Authorities have yet to determine the official cause of the collision.
The NTSB is leading the investigation. It held a news briefing on the collision on Wednesday.
NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy and other officials spoke about the investigation and recovery efforts. During the news briefing, the NTSB said that it has not recovered the black boxes from the passenger plane or the military helicopter in the collision.
"The question was about black boxes, which are referred to as black boxes, which are typically orange. We have not recovered any of the boxes involved yet," NTSB's Todd Inman said. "We feel comfortable and confident that we will be able to. Right now, recovery of life is probably the most important in those that were involved."
A black box is a device that records important information, such as flight data or performance.
