The officer was shot multiple times by a man who pulled out a gun almost immediately upon being found. The shooter was chased and taken into custody by other officers.

According to the Roswell Police Department, officers were called out due to a report of a suspicious person. The officer found a man behind the King Market shopping center off Holcomb Bridge Road.
Roswell Police Chief James Conroy said that person almost immediately pulled out a gun and opened fire on the officer.
The officer was struck several times. First aid was rendered by other officers, and he was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Other officers chased the shooter and were able to take him into custody.
The name of the officer has not been released.
The identity and charges of the shooter were not immediately available.
