"The level of tariff increases announced so far is significantly larger than anticipated," Powell said. "And the same is likely to be true of the economic effects which will include higher inflation and slower growth."
Powell also said the Fed is waiting for more data before making any moves.
"For the time being, we are well positioned to wait for greater clarity before considering any adjustments to our policy stance," Powell said.
