11:38Now PlayingA New Orleans jail maintenance worker has been arrested and is being held on a $1.1 million bond after confessing to disabling the water supply to a toilet that concealed a hole in a cell wall. This action facilitated the escape of 10 inmates, marking one of the largest jailbreaks in recent U.S. history.
Security officials highlighted several failures, including inadequate cell locks, which allowed inmates to escape when the single guard on duty left to go get food. While four inmates have been captured, six are still at large. LiveNOW's Christina Evans is speaking with Fox News Multimedia Reporter, Bowen Kedrowicz, as three sheriff's employees are suspended. Authorities suspect these employees provided assistance in an unspecified matter.
Sterling Williams, a maintenance worker at the facility, has admitted that one of the escapees “advised him to turn the water off in the cell” before the men slipped through the hole. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said Williams “made some bad decisions” and that he should have brought the threat and escape plan to someone’s attention.
