These charges come amid increased political strain between the U.S. and China. LiveNOW’s Andrew Craft is speaking to Fox News national correspondent, Garrett Tenney, as Yunqing Jian and Zunyong Liu are charged with a number of serious offenses.
A Chinese embassy official said Wednesday he was unaware of the case involving two Chinese nationals charged with smuggling a "dangerous biological pathogen" into the U.S. for university research.
"I don't know the specific situation, but I would like to emphasize that the Chinese government has always required overseas Chinese citizens to abide by local laws and regulations and will also resolutely safeguard their legitimate rights and interests," said Liu Pengyu, spokesperson for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Embassy in the U.S.
Two Chinese citizens have been charged in connection with attempting to smuggle a form of fungus that is classified as a "potential agroterrorism weapon." The Chinese citizens, Yunqing Jian, 33, and Zunyong Liu, 34, were charged with conspiracy to smuggle goods into the U.S., as well as making false statements and visa fraud.
