as posted by the channelThe FBI is holding a news conference in Minneapolis to announce federal charges against Vance Luther Boelter, 57, who is accused of fatally shooting former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and wounding another lawmaker and their spouse in what authorities describe as a politically motivated attack.
Boelter faces two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree attempted murder under state charges. He was arrested Sunday night in rural Sibley County—about 50 miles from Minneapolis—after surrendering to law enforcement in a wooded area near his home, ending the largest manhunt in Minnesota history.
Police say Boelter posed as a law enforcement officer on June 14 before carrying out the attack, first killing the Hortmans at their home in Brooklyn Park and then shooting state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, at their nearby residence.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has called the incident a “politically motivated assassination.”
Speakers at the news conference include Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson, FBI Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston, and BCA Superintendent Andrew Evans.
