The hearing will examine federal law enforcement efforts to combat drug trafficking, violent crime, and cross-border threats posed by transnational criminal organizations, including Mexican cartels. Lawmakers are expected to discuss coordination between agencies, challenges at the southern border, and strategies to dismantle cartel operations within the United States.
Scheduled witnesses include:
- Matthew Allen, special agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Los Angeles Field Division, who oversees narcotics enforcement efforts across Southern California;
- Jason Stevens, special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations in El Paso, Texas, a key hub for border-related investigations and interdictions;
- Jose Perez, assistant director of the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division, responsible for leading national strategies to combat organized crime, drug trafficking, and related criminal enterprises.
The hearing is part of the committee’s ongoing oversight of national security and public safety issues tied to international drug trafficking networks.
