The federal judge declined the Justice Department recommendation that Brett Hankison be given no prison time. Hankison is the first person sentenced to prison in the case. He fired his weapon the night of the raid, his shots didn’t hit or injure anyone.
Hankison is the first person sentenced to prison in the case. Three other ex-police officers have been charged with crafting a falsified warrant, but have not gone to trial. None of those three officers were at the scene when Taylor was shot.
Taylor’s death, along with George Floyd, sparked protests across the country in 2020.
