17:16Now PlayingGov. Greg Abbott ordered Texas authorities to arrest dozens of House Democrats who fled to Illinois and New York rather than stay for a vote on redrawing the state’s congressional map. LiveNOW’s Andy Mac is speaking with Katie Pratt, a nightside reporter for FOX 7 Austin News and FOX 32 Chicago Reporter Kasey Chronis.
Shortly after the Texas Republican released his statement, the Texas House Democratic Caucus issued a simple response, writing: "Come and take it." A number of Democratic state representatives from Texas arrived in Chicago Sunday night to try stopping the vote.
"Texas Democrats were left with no choice but to leave their home state, block a vote from taking place and protect their constituents," Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker said.
Abbott also said a legislator determined to have "forfeited his or her office due to abandonment" can be removed from office under the Texas Constitution.
