This is set to be the first in-person meeting between leaders from the U.S. and Russia since Moscow launched its 2022 invasion of Ukraine. LiveNOW's Andy Mac is asking Associated Press White House reporter Will Weissert about the likelihood of the meeting occurring.
Both leaders are expected to meet in Alaska, according to President Trump.
"The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska," Trump wrote on social media. "Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has said President Trump will use the meeting to test how serious Putin is about ending the war in Ukraine. Rutte told ABC's "This Week" that the meeting comes as Trump continues to put pressure on Putin. "Next Friday will be important because it will be about testing Putin, how serious he is on bringing this terrible war to an end," Rutte said.
