Trump made the comment on Wednesday while speaking with reporters at the big reveal of the Kennedy Center Honors nominees ahead of his meeting Friday in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Earlier in the day, President Trump spoke virtually with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Trump described it as a "good call."
Zelenskyy told Trump that Putin is "trying to apply pressure on all sectors of the Ukrainian front" in an attempt to show that Russia is "capable of occupying all of Ukraine."
The high-profile and high stakes meeting between Trump and Putin is scheduled for Friday in Anchorage, Alaska. Trump told reporters he will know in a matter of minutes whether Putin is serious about ending the war with Ukraine.
