Hegseth rolled out new directives about physical fitness, slamming what he said were "fat troops". Secretary Hegseth also said the United States must be prepared for war and be prepared to win. He said it’s “not because we want war. No one here wants war. But it's because we love peace."
"We're training warriors, not defenders. We fight wars to win, not to defend. Defense is something you do all the time, it's inherently reactionary and can lead to overuse, overreach, and mission creep. War is something you do sparingly, on our own terms and with clear aims," Hegseth said as he spoke at Marine Corps Base Quantico.
