2:25Now PlayingDue to the government shutdown, there will reportedly be no air traffic controllers working at Hollywood Burbank Airport Monday night.
Due to a staff shortage, there is said to be no controllers on duty in the tower from 4:15 p.m. to 10 p.m. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, officials are working to bring in staff as soon as possible. The FAA website states that the average flight delay is about two hours and 30 minutes.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said many controllers are calling in sick and working without pay during the shutdown.
"Is our airspace unsafe? No, if we think there's issues in the airspace, we will shut it down. We will close it down, we will delay. But again, it's creating a ripple effect for our controllers," Duffy said during a press conference.
